Energia Network rolled out in Pakistan

STAFF REPORT ISLAMABAD: The Energia Network has been launched in Pakistan and the Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) would act as the National Focal Point (NFP) and secretariat for Energia Pakistan.“The inception of Energia Pakistan is a good omen for the Pakistani women, as it focuses energy related issues of womenfolk,” Rukhsana Zuberi, Chairman Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), said speaking on the occasion.She said that alternate/renewable energy (ARE) is the ultimate source of energy for the people across the world. Pakistan being rich in ARE sources is moving
ahead to harness its potential in the sector.PEC has been instrumental in creating conducive environment for women, and also plating its role in promotion of renewables in Pakistan through various initiatives, besides contributing in the national drive for energy conservation.Govird Kelkar, UN Women South Asia Office, said on the occasion that 2 billion women across the world are facing energy related issues. She expressed full support of the Energia International in mitigating the energy related issues of Pakistani women.Arif Alauddin, Chairman AEDB, said that the energy issue that we perceive is much bigger than that. He appreciated the international and local organizations for contributing towards awareness of clean environment through ARE.
