NA body questions PCSIR output

STAFF REPORT ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Committee on Science and Technology has expressed displeasure over millions rupees of public money spent on upgradation and renovation of buildings by Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) across the country. The committee, which met here last week, was of the view that the PCSIR is involved in civil works, which is not its mandate, while it pays little attention to research and development (R&D) on scientific innovation, which is PCSIR’s actual task.“The country is confronting severe energy challenges while the PCSIR is busy in civil works,” MNA Anusha Rehman Khan said questioning the role of the PCSIR for general public and its achievement since its establishment. She said PCSIR is one of the oldest organisations of the country “but what has it produced so far?” She also rejected the new project of the PCSIR dubbed “Establishment of Fruit (Mango & Citrus) Processing Units” worth Rs 786.30 million” at Multan and claimed such project has no relevancy with the PCSIR.
