Modern research to enliven farming


STAFF REPORT ISLAMABAD: As the per acre yield in Pakistan is on the regular decline, there is a dire need to develop modern agriculture research institutes and their linkages with the international organizations at federal and provincial level.These remarks were expressed by speakers during a seminar “Agricultural Policy and Food Security in a Decentralized Economy” organized by Pakistan Institute of Development Economic here last
week.According to them, Pakistan has made significant improvement in aggregate food supply, yet, poverty, malnutrition, and hidden hunger are pervasively highlighting the mismanagement in maintaining stability in nutritious food supply and its distribution. “Developing efficient plan and avoiding the repetition of research institutes in federal and provincial level. About 90 percent of research budget is being spent on the payment of salaries,” CEO Pakistan Agriculture Research Board (PARB) Dr Mubarik Alis said in his remarks. Dr. Mubarak said that only 15 scientists from the country have presented their research papers abroad during the last ten years adding that linkages with international organizations must be strengthened as it would help in promoting the latest technology in agriculture sector.
