FJWU – a symbol of commitment to women’s education

FATIMA JINNAH Women University is named in commemoration of the contributions made by "Madr-e-Millat" to the cause of women emancipation. It is housed in a building which was old presidency and it is through this University that our heritage has been beautifully interlinked with the education of women for next millennium.

Education was initiated at FJWU on December 28, 1998 and this session graduated in September 2001. Students have come from all over the country as far as Baluchistan, Southern Punjab and Sindh.

The Fatima Jinnah Women University strives to provide a frame work within which all students are enabled to develop their academic, moral, physical, professional and spiritual potential.

Women working at the University have made history in more than one way. At the first Women’s University the women are involved in higher education management, and offering courses to bring students to an international level of training. Women institutions from all over the world have been in touch to develop exchange programs of collaboration.

The varsity has different faculties including Arts and Social Sciences; Science and Technology; Law, Commerce and Management & Administrative sciences; Islamic and Oriental Learning; Communication Sciences; and Gender Studies & Environmental Science.

Fatima Jinnah offers an incomparable environment for young girls. The university focuses on two distinct dimensions. One is to add significantly to the standards of higher education, the other is to introduce new areas of study for the young women of Pakistan. The goal of FJWU is to achieve and maintain international standards. Computer education is central to our ongoing programs. Our graduates are working with prestigious, national and international organizations.

The varsity offers the international students an excellent environment in the heart of Rawalpindi for academic pursuits and academic development. The International Students Liaison office provides advice and guidance to any applicant from overseas or any international student at the university.

The university has around 1200 students from a diversity of ages, backgrounds and cultures; this creates a busy, stimulating and interesting environment. The University aims to offer facilities for leisure and recreation to enable students to make the most of the many benefits and opportunities university life has to offer.

It offers provides part time employment-internship for students on campus. It is committed to provide students with the resources they need and to making those resources readily available for students’ own use.

FJWU runs competitive sports for students and supports more than ten students club and societies. First rate facilities plus a full calendar of events ensures that the students enjoy a full and varied campus social life. Students can also organize their own events.

FJWU provides counseling to our students so that they can understand themselves as well as a relationship is developed between the student and the teacher. Students can go to their counselor and discuss any problem regarding their families or their studies. Students can attend one-to-one interviews or regular group session.

The library is equipped with the latest books, journal & research material etc. Fatima Jinnah Women University is housed in a building with rich heritage. The largest room once was a library with thousands of priceless books. At Fatima Jinnah Women University we are committed to establish a library, which would eventually be the best in the world. We have taken the first step and the process will continue. The number of books in the library in the past six months has increased from zero to 5000.

Fatima Jinnah Women University has received books, computers, CD-ROM, videos and furniture from American Center, World Bank and USIS. The library will also acquire a computer system, which will be linked with the USIS computers to receive relevant information from abroad. The Computers installed in the library will provide the Internet facility to the students & staff in order to retrieve relevant information. CD-ROMs are available in the library. Books on the Internet are also available as per requirement.
