Telecom equipments import only after FO’s nod

STAFF REPORT KARACHI: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has said that no foreign mission, including high commission and embassies based in Pakistan, is authorised to file its request for importing telecom equipments directly to it until and unless all such cases are forwarded through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“All classified equipments are imported by different foreign missions for armed forces or law enforcement agencies and cleared by concerned organisation/agency for whom the equipments are being imported only by intimating the telecom authority,” said a spokesman of the PTA in a statement.

“If the equipment is wireless then it shall only be released after getting valid frequency allocation from PTA and Frequency Allocation Board (FAB),” says a PTA’s recently issued notification.

As per PTA directives, the type approval request should be made for the particular model of the equipment with complete documents. Any request received for type approval of series of model numbers will not be considered for approval, the notification said. The PTA also issues NOC for the import of telecom equipment Research and Development (R&D) or demonstration purposes provided its details regarding the requirement are provided.
