STAFF REPORT ISLAMABAD: The second International Conference on Machine Vision (ICMV-2010) has been held at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) Military College of Signals (MCS).
The conference, opened by Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Javaid Laghari, was aimed to facilitate the researchers, engineers and practitioners in this field so that they could share their knowledge, innovative ideas and state of the art technologies with one another and provides a platform where all facets of machine vision, as it exists in Pakistan, were thoroughly explored.
"Science and technology, research & development are vital for the development of any economy. Research is inter-disciplinary and is not confined to one problem. It drives innovation and entrepreneurship," said the HEC Chairperson in his remarks on the occasion.
He urged everyone to make use of this conference by benefiting from mutual experience and expertise.
NUST Rector Lieutenant General (R) M. Asghar in his welcome speech said: "We should focus on the development of science and technology. If we keep on having a blind eye to science and technology, we cannot compete with the world as it is progressing very fast."
He said that Pakistan is vigorously taking initiatives to achieve a high quality of progress in the field of science and technology and in this connection multiple options are being explored at a fast pace.
He called for initiation of joint practical measures to kickstart research and development projects in the country.
Other speakers welcomed the holding of the conference by the NUST and suggested such event should continue in future for the growth of S & T.
