Meager funds in Punjab for environment

STAFF REPORT LAHORE: The Punjab government has proposed a meager allocation of Rs 350 million for one of the most important sectors, environment, for the fiscal year 2011-12.

According to the data, the original allocation for environment last fiscal year was Rs 335 million, which was revised to Rs 138 million. As such the allocation this fiscal year is Rs 153.62 million, which is more than the previous year’s.
The environment sector is regularly on the decline in Pakistan, which is posing a serious threat to the human lives but the provincial dispensation has not allocated sufficient amount to reduce the menace of pollution.
