3.59m more cell phone users added in Jul-Dec time

STAFF REPORT ISLAMABAD: The cellular phone operators have widened overall base by 3.59 million subscribers in the first half of the current fiscal year 2010-11, PTA’s fresh statistics revealed. Cellular phone operators’ strategies to enhance customers with revamped brands have been successful as they attracted new and existing mobile phone users through day and night lowest calls offers, telecom analysts said.

According to them, the number of multiple SIMs users is also increasing with the growth of mobile phone subscriptions in the country, which may thin revenues of the cellular phone operators in the saturated market.

By the end of December 2010, the overall subscribers’ base had reached 102.777 million with the tele-density stood at 61.7 percent.
The PTA data reveals that Zong is the star performer in the period under-review as it witnessed highest increase in subscription by 1.47 million.

Telenor retained growth in subscribers and recorded surge of 0.894 million subscription. Ufone grabbed 0.725 million users to widen its base to 20.275 million. Ufone’s Uth and Karachi offers received tremendous response by the company in terms of new subscriptions.

Warid remained its subscribers growth rate and added 0.585 million new users with its Glow brands. Its base increased to stand at 17.517 million by Dec 2010.

The Mobilink witnessed loss of subscribers in the current fiscal year as its base contracted to stand at 31.794 million.http://www.technologytimes.pk/mag/2011/march11/issue01/3.59m_more_cell_phone_users.php
