Tuwairqi, SW to launch AfPak solar projects

STAFF REPORT KARACHI: In order to jointly explore solar energy projects in Pakistan and Afghanistan, the Tuwairqi Steel Mills (TSML) has signed an MoU with a European firm, SolarWorld.

According to a statement issued here last week, SolarWorld is a photovoltaics module manufacturing company, which will prepare a feasibility study to set up a similar facility in Pakistan in collaboration with TSMLE-Solar. Photovoltaics generates electrical power by converting solar radiations into direct current electricity using semiconductors that exhibit the photovoltaic effect. “With higher prices and scarcity of fossil fuel, solar power is finally emerging as a viable and efficient source of energy,” M Jamshed from TSML said.
