STAFF REPORT KARACHI: Around seven million cellular subscribers in Pakistan are using 3G enabled smart phones and the number is likely to hit 12 million by 2012, an official of the Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) official has forecast.
“We have received an encouraging response with respect to developing handset manufacturing in Pakistan and PTA looks forward to playing its required job in this regard,” PTA Director Public Relations, Khurram Mehran, told the media.
“Pakistan is one of the most aggressive markets for the cellular sector, but the present mobile ecosystem in the country has so far failed to spur the manufacturing segment,” he said.
