18,000 students throng biodiversity expo


STAFF REPORT ISLAMABAD: An expo titled “Biodiversity is Life-Biodiversity is our Life” (prepared by UNESCO, Paris and partners) was organised the IMCG, F-7/4, Islamabad last week by PSF and Embassy in France which turned out to be a successful event.

The three-day expo was also arranged at the Jinnah Convention Centre, Islamabad, during the Students’ Festival on January 21-25. More than 18000 students visited the expo.

Dr. M. D. Shami, Vice President, Islamic World Academy of Sciences and former Chairman PSF, was the chief guest at this occasion, Dr. Anwar Nasim, Advisor-Science, COMSTECH, also addressed the audience.

They highlighted the importance of expos and appreciated the PSF efforts for science popularisation in the country.

Sandie Favier, French Attachee for S&T, also addressed the students and highlighted the programmes for science popularisation being undertaken by France in collaboration with PSF.

Dr. Manzoor Soomro, Chairman PSF, gave a brief introduction about the activities of PSF and background of the travelling expos in Pakistan. He emphasised on the importance of biodiversity and its preservation.

The Expo now will be taken to Abbottabad, then to Faisalabad, Khairpur, and Qutta. The expo on Biodiversity is also a milestone towards commemoration of the International Year of Biodiversity-2010 and beginning of the World Biodiversity Decade (2011-2020).
