Nokia trains developers on Java ME and Qt

STAFF REPORT KARACHI: The Nokia Pakistan has successfully imparted training to a number of participants of a four-day training workshop in the city regarding development of Java solutions.

“The training would include introduction to J2ME and the tools, Mobile Java Standards, Nokia enhancements beyond the standard, building GUIs with native components, painting one’s own GUI, memory management and performance, Java on Series 40 platoforms, designing for touch and Qt for mobile development amongst other things,” Rabia Azfar of Nokia Pakistan informed the media here last week.

She said that normally the 4-day training would have cost each developer in the region of $500 but Nokia made this training available for free to around 50 developers in Karachi from January 31 to February 3.

She said that usually there were dropouts on the 2nd or 3rd day but the training must have been intense and valuable because there was 100 per cent attendance.

At the closing session I had the chance to speak with Teemu Kiiiarvi, Developer Relations Manager, Middle East and Africa at Nokia South Africa in some detail. Teemu was of the opinion that

“The developers in Pakistan are much more talented and keen to learn and absorb new ideas and skills than in many other countries in the region,” Teemu Kiiiarvi, Developer Relations Manager, Middle East and Africa at Nokia South Africa, remarked on the occasion.
